About Kim

A LETTER TO BELLINGHAM

Dear Bellingham,

My name is Kim Lund, and I am running for Mayor.

I believe:

Ours is an extraordinary community.
We can be unbounded in our imagining while strategic and effective in our actions.
We can grow while preserving and nurturing the things that make Bellingham special.
Our most complex problems are – must be – solvable.
Our community is full of people who love Bellingham and want to find lasting solutions.
Together, we can get to yes.

Why now?

The challenges that face our community are not unique to us, nor are they simple:
∙ Access to affordable housing
∙ Downtown vibrancy
∙ Homelessness
∙ Community health and safety
∙ Climate change
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to grow up in Bellingham and to raise my family here.
I am excited to lead Bellingham to be a model for how a community in all its economic, social and political diversity can use trust, goodwill and connection to make good change.

Who I am:

∙ Graduate of Bellingham Public Schools
∙ Mother
∙ Chemical Engineer
∙ Team Leader at a Fortune 50 Company
∙ Nonprofit Executive
∙ Whatcom County Planning Commissioner
∙ Small Business Entrepreneur
∙ Board Member: Brigid Collins / Whatcom Million Trees Project / CommunityWise Bellingham

These experiences have shaped me to be:

• Strategic thinker
• Proven, results-oriented executive
• Active listener
• Trusted community partner
• Leader who acts with head and heart

If you, too, believe Bellingham can move forward with urgency, intelligence, and love, then please join our campaign!

Sincerely,
Kim

PROVEN, DECISIVE LEADERSHIP

Inherent in it’s design, our strong mayor system requires the mayor not to just share our values – but also be an experienced and confident executive for the more than 900 employees who go to work on our behalf.

That’s why my decades of proven, community-centered leadership in both the for-proft and non-profit sectors matter.

COLLABORATIVE

Bellingham is a great city, we deserve excellent, well-rounded leadership that will actively listen and implement action plans with our partner agencies and community members.

I have trusted relationships throughout this community – which is critical – because our progress will move at the speed of trust.

DATA DRIVEN

I’m excited to bring an engineer’s perspective to city hall – along with data-informed approaches and a willingness to adapt.

I have a bias towards action. I’ll institute a community dashboard approach so that our progress on our most pressing challenges will be public.
